Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson 2 Official for UFC 232
A rematch of the fight that many consider to be the greatest in UFC history is official for UFC 232, as Jon “Bones” Jones makes his Octagon return against Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson on December 29.
The UFC light heavyweight title will be on the line when Jones squares off against Gustafsson, meaning that current champion Daniel Cormier will be stripped of his belt the moment that the rematch is underway.
Jones defeated Gustafsson via unanimous decision the first time the two met at UFC 165 in September of 2013.
Jones (22-1-1NC) has been out of action since July of last year while dealing with issues stemming from a failed USADA test following his rematch against Daniel Cormier at UFC 214. The result of the second bout against DC was subsequently ruled a “no contest”. Jones holds notable victories over former UFC champions “Shogun” Rua, “Rampage” Jackson, Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans, Vitor Belfort, as well as current champion Daniel Cormier and many other major names from the sport of MMA.
Gustafsson (18-4) is coming off of back-to-back victories over Jan Błachowicz and Glover Teixeira, most recently defeating Teixeira via fifth-round knockout in May of 2017. “The Mauler” holds a record of 10-4 since joining the UFC back in 2009.
