Yoel Romero Wants to Fight Anderson Silva at UFC Brooklyn
UFC middleweight contender Yoel Romero told Ariel Helwani on ESPN’s Helwani Show that he wants Anderson “The Spider” Silva as his next opponent. Romero shot down the rumored matchup between himself and Paulo Costa.
Romero told Helwani that he was told he’ll be competing in the main event of UFC Brooklyn on January 19, so he’s hoping that “The Spider” answers his challenge to headline the show. UFC Brooklyn will be the inaugural event on the ESPN+ streaming service.
Romero (13-3) is coming off of a split decision loss to middleweight champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 225 in June. The “Soldier of God” holds wins over former UFC champions Lyoto Machida, Chris Weidman, and Luke Rockhold.
Silva (34-8-1NC) has been out of action since his unanimous decision victory over Derek Brunson at UFC 208 in February of 2017. “The Spider” is the longest-reigning middleweight champion in UFC history and holds notable wins over the likes of Rich Franklin (x2), Dan Henderson, Chael Sonnen (x2), Vitor Belfort, and many others throughout an MMA career that spans all the way back to 1997.
