UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov spoke to Russian media yesterday and was asked if he would rather fight former interim champion Tony Ferguson or undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather in his next contest. Nurmagomedov responded: “For legacy, money-wise and competition-wise, the bout against Mayweather would be more interesting.”

Ferguson took to Twitter this morning to voice his displeasure with Nurmagomedov’s mindset: “Tried to be nice but you’re still my bitch. Khabib Nurmagomedov, check it out... You couldn’t box your way out of a paper bag. I see you and the team working on that footwork. Running from a much needed ass whoopin’. Keep swimmin’ shrimp, the fans like me better. I’m the champ, chump.”

Ferguson (24-3) is currently riding a eleven-fight win streak, most recently defeating former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis via second-round TKO at UFC 229 last month. “El Cucuy” holds notable victories over the likes of Pettis, Edson Barboza, Rafael dos Anjos, and Kevin Lee.

Nurmagomedov vs. Ferguson has been scheduled on four different occasions but the fight has never materialized due to a variety of reasons. Both fighters have been forced to pull out of the contest twice each.
