The UFC is in the process of eliminating their men’s flyweight division, according to FloCombat. Per the report, the division will most likely dissolve by the end of 2018. Some of the fighters will be asked to move up to bantamweight, while others will be cut from the promotion altogether.

Jose “Shorty” Torres took to Twitter shortly after the report to announce that he has been released from his UFC contract with two fights still remaining. According to Torres, he’s the first flyweight to be cut from the company and we should expect to hear more names soon. “Shorty” was not given the option to compete at bantamweight.

The news of terminating UFC’s flyweight division comes off the heels of the UFC trading longtime flyweight king Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson to ONE in exchange for welterweight Ben Askren.
