Valentina Shevchenko joined Ariel Helwani on ESPN’s Helwani Show to discuss her next potential opponent. When asked if she would be open to fighting former strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the vacant flyweight title, Shevchenko responded:

"The division has to move, the division has to fight and the belt has to be in play. The fight for the belt has to happen before the end of the year. I will gladly fight Joanna because she's a real professional fighter."

Shevchenko was scheduled to challenge Nicco Montaño for the UFC flyweight belt at UFC 228 this past Saturday but Montaño never made it to the fight. UFC President Dana White subsequently stripped Montaño of the title after she was hospitalized due to “health concerns” during her weight-cut. White also announced that Shevchenko will get the next crack at the vacant flyweight championship in her next bout due to the circumstances.
