Tyron Woodley submitted Darren Till in the second round of the main event at UFC 228 to retain the UFC welterweight championship. After the fight, Woodley did not name his next preferred challenger for the title, although former interim champion Colby Covington is publicly calling for the fight.

In the co-main event, Jessica Andrade made a major statement in the women's strawweight division by knocking out Karolina Kowalkiewicz in the first round. Andrade announced that she wants a shot at the UFC strawweight championship this December during her post-fight interview.
