Stephen Thompson vs. Anthony Pettis Targeted for UFC Nashville Main Event
Anthony “Showtime” Pettis is will make his welterweight debut against Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson in the main event of UFC Nashville on March 23.
Thompson (14-3-1) is coming off of a unanimous decision loss to Darren Till in May of last year. “Wonderboy” holds notable Octagon victories over the likes of UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker, Johny Hendricks, Jorge Masvidal and current Bellator welterweight champion Rory MacDonald. He currently sits at #4 on the official UFC welterweight fighter rankings.
Pettis (21-8) is coming off of a second-round TKO loss to Tony Ferguson at UFC 229 in October. A former WEC and UFC lightweight champion, Pettis holds notable Octagon wins over the likes of Jeremy Stephens, “Cowboy” Cerrone, Benson Henderson, Gilbert Melendez, and Michael Chiesa. “Showtime” currently sits at #8 on the official UFC lightweight rankings and will be competing at welterweight for the first time in his career when he takes on Thompson.
