Max Holloway vs. Dustin Poirier For Interim Lightweight Title to Main Event UFC 236
Max Holloway will have the chance to become a dual-weight champion when rematches Dustin Poirier for the interim UFC lightweight championship in the UFC 236 main event on April 13. It was also announced that the show will take place in Atlanta, Georgia.
The interim lightweight championship is being created during the absence of current champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov due to suspension.
Holloway (20-3) is coming off of a fourth-round TKO victory over Brian Ortega at UFC 231 last December. “Blessed” is currently riding a 13-fight win streak that includes names such as Ortega, Cub Swanson, Charles Oliveira, Jeremy Stephens, Ricardo Lamas, former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, and former featherweight champion José Aldo (x2).
Poirier (24-5-1NC) is coming off of a second-round TKO win over Eddie Alvarez in June of last year. “The Diamond” holds a submission victory over Holloway from back at UFC 143 in 2012. He has earned notable Octagon wins over the likes of Holloway, Jim Miller, Anthony Pettis, and Justin Gaethje since making the jump from the WEC to the UFC in 2011.
