A welterweight showdown between Jorge Masvidal and Ben Askren is in the works for UFC 239 on July 6.

Masvidal (33-13) is coming off of a second-round knockout victory over Darren Till in the UFC London main event earlier this month. “Gamebred” holds notable Octagon wins over Till, Michael Chiesa, Ross Pearson, Jake Ellenberger, and “Cowboy” Cerrone. He currently sits at #4 on the official UFC welterweight fighter rankings.

Askren (19-0-1NC) is coming off of a controversial first-round submission win over Robbie Lawler in his Octagon debut at UFC 235. “Funky” has defeated the likes of Lawler, Ryan Thomas (x2), Lyman Good, Douglas Lima, Andrey Koreshkov, and Shinya Aoki since beginning his pro MMA career back in 2009. He currently sits at #5 on the official UFC welterweight fighter rankings.
