Paulo Costa was handed a six-month USADA suspension for prohibited usage of an IV (intravenous infusion) twice in 2017. The UFC middleweight contender’s suspension is retroactive to August 10, 2018, meaning that Costa can return to the Octagon immediately. The IV’s contained saline solution and stomach medication.

“The Eraser” was facing a possible two-year suspension but had it reduced to six months for providing USADA with “substantial assistance,” a clause that allows fighters to provide information regarding another current or potential case for a lesser punishment.

Costa (12-0) is coming off of a second-round TKO victory over Uriah Hall at UFC 226 in July of 2018. The undefeated prospect also holds a notable TKO win over former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks.
