A welterweight showdown between Colby Covington and Robbie Lawler is in the works to headline UFC Newark on August 3.

Covington (14-1) is currently riding a 6-fight win streak, most recently defeating Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 225 last June. A former interim welterweight champion, “Chaos” holds victories over RDA, Demian Maia, and Dong Hyun Kim in his last three outings.

Lawler (28-13-1NC) is coming off of back-to-back losses against RDA and Ben Askren, most recently losing via first-round submission to Askren at UFC 235 in March. A former undisputed welterweight champion, Lawler holds notable Octagon victories over the likes of Rory MacDonald (x2), Matt Brown, Johny Hendricks, Carlos Condit, and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone.
