A middleweight championship unification bout between Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya will officially headline UFC 243 on October 5.

Whittaker (20-4) is riding a 9-fight win streak, most recently defeating Yoel Romero at UFC 225 in June of last year. The “true” middleweight champ holds notable Octagon victories over Romero (x2), Brad Tavares, Uriah Hall, Derek Brunson, and “Jacare” Souza.

Adesanya (17-0) is the reigning interim champion, having won the belt by defeating Kelvin Gastelum via unanimous decision at UFC 236 in April. “The Last Stylebender” holds notable Octagon victories over the likes of Gastelum, Brad Tavares, Derek Brunson, and former middleweight king Anderson Silva.
